Fellow Texan—
The State of Texas has a rich history regarding the use of firearms, whether it be to keep the peace or for sport. It was recently brought to our attention that the Governor's EMS & Trauma Advisory Council (GETAC) is considering adopting a position statement on firearm policy that could include a recommendation for the Texas medical community to engage patients and families in conversation on gun storage practices.
Our members have taught these practices to our children and grandchildren alike, and it is because we know that individual Texans can implement these storage practices without government intervention that we question whether this Council should be involved in taking a policy stance on these types of issues. One thing we know for sure is that the government shouldn't be pushing doctors into the anti-Second Amendment debate—period! That's why we sent a letter today to GETAC opposing the adoption of this policy position. We're not going to tolerate it in Texas!
You can read our letter by clicking here.
We will never falter in defending your Second Amendment rights in the State of Texas, as our liberty depends upon continuing to secure these rights. We thank you for your continued support, and we will update you shortly on this and other policy positions we are planning for the upcoming 87th Legislative Session that begins in January.
In Liberty,
Rep. Mayes Middleton
